Cilacap, CNN Indonesia - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operation of the Cilacap Expansion 1 Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 1x660 Megawatts (MW) in Karangandri Village, Kesugihan District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java Province on Monday (25/2 )The PLTU project, according to Jokowi, will increase the supply to meet the electricity needs in Java. The operation of the Cilacap PLTU Expansion 1, according to him, can also contribute to the economy of Cilacap and nationally.

"With electricity, home industries can also work at night, than those who normally cannot work. Indonesian children can learn at night," Jokowi said during the inauguration of the Cilacap PLTU 1 Expansion.

Along with the construction of the Cilacap Expansion 1 PLTU, Jokowi ensured the fourth series of PLTU in Cilacap, namely Cilacap Expansion 2 PLTU with an electricity capacity of 1x1,000 MW will be built by the end of this year. "The target was 2020, but I heard that he said it could be faster by the end of 2019," he said. Previously, in the PLTU circuit in Cilacap, Adipala PLTU was built with a capacity of 660 MW and PLTU Cilacap 1 and 2 with a capacity of 2x300 MW. Both have been operating since 2015. On the other hand, Jokowi also ensures that the government is not only fixated on Java in terms of meeting electricity needs, but also in areas outside Java, such as eastern Indonesia and remote and disadvantaged areas.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignasius Jonan said Cilacap Expansion 1 PLTU was one of a series of electricity mega projects from a series of 35 thousand MW electricity programs initiated by President Jokowi. "This PLTU can be a supply for approximately 1,050,000 new customers with 900 VA electricity capacity," explained Jonan. The power plant was built by PT Sumber Segara Primadaya (S2P), which is a joint venture / Independent Power Producer (IPP) supplier between PT Sumber Energi Sakti Prima and PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali (PJB). The investment in Cilacap PLTU Expansion 1 reached Rp54 trillion and absorbed a workforce of 6 thousand people. When operating later, PLTU Cilacap Expansion 1 will be connected to the Java Bali electricity network through the Adipala High Voltage Substation (GITET) and GITET Kesugihan. The construction of the PLTU is expected to increase the achievement of the national electrification ratio target of 99.9 percent in 2019. While until the end of 2018, the national electrification ratio is claimed to have reached 98.3 percent. "The national electrification ratio last year has exceeded the original target of 97.5 percent," Jonan said on the same occasion. The national electrification ratio also increases from year to year. Recorded, the new ratio reached 76.6 percent in 2012. Then, it increased to 80.5 percent in 2013, 84.4 percent in 2014, 88.3 percent in 2015, 91.2 percent in 2016, and 95.3 percent in 2017.

Meanwhile, the completion of the 35 thousand MW megaproject is divided into two, namely those carried out by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN and IPP. In the construction of a power plant by PLN, there were around 4,519 MW or 52 percent already under construction. The rest, 1,823 MW or 21 percent are contracted, 1,353 MW or 16 percent at the procurement stage, and 954 MW or 11 percent at the planning stage.

Whereas in the construction of the power plant by the IPP, there were around 9,507 MW or 36 percent already under construction. The rest, 15,854 MW or 59 percent in the contract stage and 1,239 MW or 5 percent in the SLO / COD / Commissioning stage.
